31st Annual Occupational Safety and Health
Summer Institute

Course Site and Lodging

All Summer Institute classes and events will take place at the Marriott Norfolk Waterside.

To assure accommodation availability, reservations must be received by the CUT-OFF DATE OF JULY 17, 2008. After that date, reservations will be accepted on a space available basis. Please make reservations before the cutoff date!

To reserve a room at the Marriott in the General Room Block, call 800-874-0264.  You must ask for the ROOM BLOCK CODE “NCONCOA” to receive the group rate of $129.  

To reserve a room in the Government Room Block at $94, call 800-874-0264 and ask for the ROOM BLOCK CODE “OSGOSGA”. The Government Room block has a limited number of rooms. When this contracted room block is full, the room rate will be charged the General Room Block rate. You will be required to show appropriate government identification at check-in.

If you have problems making a reservation, please call Vicki Smith at 888-235-3320.  The hotel is pleased to extend the special group rate one day prior to the major check-in date and two days after the major check-out date based on space and rate availability.

Guaranteed Reservations: Reservation requests for arrival must be accompanied by a first night room deposit of $129, or be guaranteed with a major credit card. All cancellations must be received 72 hours prior to arrival for refund of deposit.

Located in the heart of a revitalized downtown Norfolk, the Marriott Norfolk Waterside overlooks the Waterside Festival Marketplace on the Elizabeth River where you can take a day or evening cruise departing from The Waterside Marina, visit the National Maritime Center or watch a Norfolk Tides baseball game in Norfolk Tides Harbor Park. The area boasts great shopping and dining at MacArthur Center only two blocks from the Marriott. Many more restaurants and activities are within walking distance of the hotel. The area is also an excellent area to walk or run. Visit the city of Norfolk at www.norfolk.va.us.

Guest room amenities include work desk, 2-line phone, voice mail, data ports, remote control cable/satellite TV, movies, newspaper delivered, in-room coffee, iron, ironing board,  hair dyer and room service. Marriott guests may also enjoy an indoor pool, health club, whirlpool and sauna. Unlimited in-room high-speed Internet access and long distance phone calls for 9.95 per day.

Guest check in time is 4:00 PM and check out is 12:00 Noon. Guest services Assistants can arrange to check baggage for those arriving early when rooms are not available.

Parking for Marriott guests is in the Main Street Parking Garage across from the hotel (entrance on Atlantic Street) owned and operated by the City of Norfolk. A covered pedestrian bridge connects the parking garage to the Hotel and Convention Center.  Parking charge for registered guests is $19 per day for self-parking with "in and out" privileges and $26 per day for valet parking. These prices are subject to change.

Dress is casual but tasteful.  Bring a jacket or sweater since meeting rooms may be cool.  No cell phones, pagers or beepers turned on in meeting rooms.
