Industrial Hygiene is the art and science of anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling workplace conditions that may cause worker injury or illness. This course is a week-long introduction to the basic concepts of Industrial Hygiene and is a prerequisite for many of the other Institute courses. If you have recently assumed Industrial Hygiene responsibilities or you have experience in other aspects of the Safety, Health, & Environmental profession and would like to learn more about Industrial Hygiene, then this is the course for you. The course participants will become familiar with the basic terminology, calculation methods, essential concepts and key principles involved in the practice of Industrial Hygiene.

Course Faculty

Objectives

To provide attendees with basic practical information to anticipate, recognize, evaluate and control potential or existing occupational hazards. Attendees will be able to define terms and basic regulatory requirements, describe the effects of various chemical, physical and biological agents, and consider appropriate control measures. Also, the attendees will be able to perform basic Industrial Hygiene calculations. Math Review and Use of Scientific Calculator will be presented on Sunday, February 26, 2017, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.

You will need to bring a scientific calculator for use during the sessions involving calculations.  The Texas Instruments TI-30Xa calculator will be the calculator used during these sessions. This model may be purchased online or at the major office supply stores. If available please bring the most recent publication of the ACGIH TLVs/BEIs Booklet to class.

Content

Specific topics covered include regulations, thermal stress, noise, chemical and biological hazards, ionizing radiation, evaluation and instrumentation techniques, control measures, toxicology and physiology.

$1195, $1295 after January 26, 2017.
