Fundamentals of Industrial Hygiene Online

August 23 - December 16, 2016

Fundamentals of Industrial Hygiene in now being offered online. This course closely follows the Fundamentals of Industrial Hygiene course presented face-to-face at annual Summer and Winter Institutes presented by the NC OSHERC at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The online course is a self-paced course to be completed within the dates above. A discussion forum including online participants and the course instructor may also be used as a study option for the course.

Industrial Hygiene is the art and science of anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling workplace conditions that may cause worker injury or illness. This course is an introduction to the basic concepts of Industrial Hygiene. If you have recently assumed Industrial Hygiene responsibilities or you have experience in other aspects of Safety, Health or Environmental areas and would like to learn more about Industrial Hygiene, then this is the course for you. The course participants will become familiar with the basic terminology, calculation methods, essential concepts and key principles involved in the practice of Industrial Hygiene.

Objectives

The course will provide attendees with basic practical information to anticipate, recognize, evaluate and control potential or existing occupational hazards. Attendees will be able to define terms and basic regulatory requirements, describe the effects of various chemical, physical and biological agents, and consider appropriate control measures. Also, the attendees will be able to perform basic Industrial Hygiene calculations.

Content

Specific topics covered include regulations, thermal stress, noise, chemical and biological hazards, ionizing radiation, evaluation and instrumentation techniques, control measures, toxicology and physiology.

Credit

ABIH has previously awarded CM credit for this event. The current event contains 34.0 hours which can be claimed for CM credit.
