This course will provide the basic principles
and concepts of occupational health nursing practice. Emphasis
will be on the nurse's role as a member of the occupational
health team, development of an occupational health service,
prevention of injury and disease, health promotion of adults,
and protection of worker populations. The content is designed
for nurses who are new to occupational health nursing or
those who have had a limited scope of practice but desire
to expand that scope of environmental and occupational
health nursing practice.

Objectives
- Identify the components of a conceptual framework for
occupational health nursing practice.
- Describe the roles and functions of the occupational
health nurse.
- Discuss the importance of record documentation.
- Discuss major regulatory issues impacting occupational
health nursing practice.
- Identify case management strategies.
- Outline the steps involved in planning a health promotion
program.
- Identify methods to recognize, evaluate and control worker
exposure to health and safety hazards.
- Identify the basic concepts of toxicology as they apply
to the worksite.

The program will run from Tuesday March 9, 2010 at 8:15 am through Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 4:45 pm.

Credit
Approved for 20.0 contact hours for March 9-11, 2010 through AAOHN. No partial credit can be awarded.
A total of 23.5 credits for March 9-12, 2010 will be awarded to include Respiratory Protection for Nurses.
Respiratory Protection for Nurses (Optional)
March 12, 2010, 8:30 am - 12:30 pm
This section will be offered for those who would like to stay for extra credit! Qualitative Fit Testing will be taught with hands-on class participation.
Registration Fee for Respiratory Protection for Nurses: $75, $100 after February 26
Registration is required.
Additional 3.5 contact hours are approved for March 12, 2010 Respiratory Protection for Nurses. No partial credit can be awarded.
