The "Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE) Disaster Preparedness" course will cover the basic principles of responding to a CBRNE disaster. Following the events of 9/11 anyone in the Health & Safety profession might be called upon to respond or at least understand or potentially assist with a CBRNE event. It is important to understand what is meant by the term CBRNE and related agents, how to detect their presence, respond to them properly to minimize impact and loss of life, and offer proper protection for response personnel. This course can be used to upgrade your HAZMAT certification to include CBRNE response.

The course participant will gain a basic understanding of CBRNE agents and, in addition the course will cover the specific topics listed below.

  • Chemical agent identification
  • Proper detection, equipment and use
  • Proper protective clothing and decontamination
  • Reporting requirements and Emergency Action Plans
  • Explosive agents

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the participants will understand what a CBRNE event is and how to respond to it. They will be able to select the proper detection equipment, instrumentation, and protective equipment and be able to properly use them. They will be able to develop training programs and function as a first responder in the event of a CBRNE disaster.

Course begins Wednesday,August 5 at 1:00 pm and ends Friday, August 7 at 11:00 am.
