Mold Assessment and Remediation

February 17-19, 2010
Tradewinds Island Grand
St. Pete Beach, Florida

Technician Certificate Program Elective
TECH EXAM FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 19 at 11:30 AM.

Concerns about mold in residences, schools, commercial and public buildings, both new and old construction, have significantly increased over the past few years. The issue is being driven by health effects, tort liability, and media coverage. Currently, there are no regulations, federal or state accreditations for training, or established exposure limits for mold. Yet, homebuilders, facility managers, industrial hygienists, environmental consultants, remediation and restoration contractors, insurance claims adjusters and many others are called upon to address the problem.

The purpose of this course is to provide practical and impartial guidance, in the absence of regulations and standardized protocols, for assessing and remediating mold and moisture in buildings. A distinction will be made between what is known about the topic and what is controversial. The course materials rely upon the best available resources.

Detailed information is provided on finding moisture in buildings, visual inspection and sampling for mold, data evaluation, techniques and personal protective equipment for removing mold and moisture, and project monitoring and clearance. Health effects and legal issues associated with these activities are also discussed.
