Mission
To train highly-qualified scientists
who will develop and apply the theory, method, and substance
of epidemiology to protect workers' safety and health.
The program offers four major areas of occupational research
focus:
- injuries and musculoskeletal disorders
- cancer
- reproduction
- epidemiologic research methods
Degrees Offered
The program emphasizes research training at the doctoral
level. Completion of the PhD typically requires three to
five years following the master's or professional degree.
Applicants who are interested in the PhD but do not have
a graduate degree may be admitted to the doctoral program,
but are expected to earn the Master of Science in Public
Health (MSPH) as an intermediate step. The MPH in epidemiology
is also available as a terminal professional degree for
physicians and others with prior doctoral-level professional
degrees.
The PhD in epidemiology prepares students for careers in
research and teaching. Students develop skills in occupational
epidemiology through course work, involvement in research
projects and practice opportunities.
